Overview

The Rose Engine Butler system is designed to

  1. Provide the ornamental turner a way for linking activities using synchronization of stepper motors, and
  2. Assist the ornamental turner with automating onerous tasks.

Rose Engine Butler User Menus

The panel on the right

  • Shows the status of all axes, and enables the user to enable/disable any axis’ stepper motor.

ℛ Help

is used to provide the user with links to user manuals.

ℛ Usage

displays the Rose Engine Butler user license (MIT/X Consortium License).

Rather than lengthening the tab names by calling them “Rose Engine Butler ...”, the ℛ character is used.

Base LinuxCNC

The base LinuxCNC application has these functions which will be used often by the ornamental turner.

########## F1 E-Stop ##########
F1
E-Stop

is always engaged when the system is started. You must disengage the E-STOP before any other operations can be performed. This can be done by either clicking on the indicated icon, or by using the F1 key. Either will toggle this state.

########## F2 Power on ##########
F2
Power on

is used to “power the machine on”. This is always off when the system is started, and toggling the E-STOP does not affect this. You can either click on the indicated icon, or use the F2 key to toggle this.

Whenever an error is encoutered, the system moves to a powered off state also. It is a good practice to clear the error first (by clicking on the X for the error).

########## F3 Jogging / Manual Control ##########
F3
Manual Control

is used to manually drive any axis. This also allows for jogging the axis.

Note: This does not allow for jogging or manually controlling the rosette phaser multipler (Sp1). Thusly, using this menu to move the spindle (Sp0) will change the relationship between the spindle and the rosette phaser multipler.

########## F5 MDI Menu ##########
F5
MDI Menu

is the section where G-code program commands can be entered manually, one line at a time. This also shows the Active G-codes which thusly shows which modal G-codes are in effect.

To load a Gcode program file which you wish to execute, click on File at the top of the screen.
