On this page, the axis letters are colored to assist the user. (Note: LinuxCNC does not allow for a Y axis when running as a lathe.)

The axis controls on the user screens are only shown for the axes selected for use. For example, in the screen show below, the user has selected to use the X, Y, U, V, W, and C axes. Thusly, no controls are shown for the A or B axes.

The table at the bottom of the user screen titled, Axis Assignments, shows the current axis assignments. It will be updated whenever the selected axes are changed.


At Startup

When the Rose Engine Butler system is started, the screen to the right will be displayed.

At this point, the LinuxCNC system is still in an "Estop" and "off" state.

After

  1. releasing the Estop (F1), and
  2. powering the system on (F2),

the same screen will no longer be grayed out, and will be as shown below.

Note: This state can be also encountered if an error is encountered.


After Startup

The controls on this page are:

ENA

Used to enable or disable an axis.

  • When red, the axis is disabled.
  • When green, the axis is enabled.
Feed Rate

Used to set the feed rate (speed) for movements on this page. The unit of measure (UOM) for that speed is shown on the screen.

These feed rates are not used on the Manual Control / Jogging (F3) nor the MDI Tab (F5).

The UOM shown, and used by the system, is based on the Measurement System selection.

Run Operation

Used for running the spindles.

Notes for the Sp1 spindle (rosette phaser/multiplier)

  • The feed rate is a percentage of the Sp0 spindle's speed. At 100%, they run the same speed.
  • This can be set to +1,000% to -1,000%.
  • If it is set to 0, the Sp1 will not run. (Or the Sp1 spindle can be disabled.)
Device

This allows the user to denote the use of the non-spindle axes. The values show are in the Device Names list on Settings - General.

Indexing

For linear axes, this is a distance. The UOM shown for these axes, and used by the system, is based on the Measurement System selection.

For the spindles and rotary/angular axes, this is a rotary indexing. It can be in either:

  • degrees, or
  • divisions of a circle -- particularly useful for fractions which are not rational values: e.g., 1/7

For the spindles, this is a simple indexing of the spindles only. Their movement cannot be synchronized with other axes.

To accomplish synchronized movement of axes with the spindles (such as in gcode), those spindles will need be connected to axes setup for use as an angular/rotary axis (i.e., A, B, or C).
